I've always wondered if writers know that the lines they write will become part of our vernacular or if it just happens.

My boyfriend and I were just coming up with a list of them the other day while watching Kindergarten Cop. His kids were watching Goonies in the other room.

It's not a tumor. Hey you guys!!

Troop Beverly Hills.

Although I am as blue as they get, I do agree with you on this. Actually, as I was reading this article, I began to think, "Why would they tease the Amish kids? The Amish are such nice people." But, then I remembered that kids are mean and don't like people who are different. And, if their parents don't explain to them that the Amish children are children, too, and deserve respect, well . . . that's why are country is in the sorry state of affairs that it finds itself.

I got 1%. And, if you do the math, it works about to about $0.10 an hour. I'm livin' the good life now!

How about when Bill Gates gets his way and all learning is done in front of a computer without a teacher in the room?

Before anybody starts to go off about how teachers are so overpaid, just think about this: I've been teaching for 9 years. I have a bachelors and a masters degree. I teach in a small, rural district. I make $40,000 a year. That's right. I make $40,000 a year with all of my education and experience. Some teachers in wealthy districts are paid very well. Other, like me, don't make much at all. So, please, don't just go off about how all teachers are overpaid. None of us are overpaid, and a lot of us are very much underpaid.

If a cop pulls you over and thinks that you've been drinking, you have the right to refuse the breathalyzer. However, refusal results in an immediate 6 month suspension of your license. Or, you can take the test and run the risk of blowing over the limit. We all agree to this stipulation when we get our licenses. Why can't a rider like this be put on the welfare application?

No, really, we're stuck here. Trust me, if I could get out, I'd be in Syracuse right now.

I don't know if they have "deals", per se, but their prices are very reasonable. And, the baked goods are amazing.

You could race boats on it yesterday.

Don't worry, you're not missing much. Although, the Main Street Grill and Bakery is a pretty good place to eat.

For as long as I can remember, there was always road work on 690 during the summer months. There were construction workers doing that work. I didn't see any of that this summer. Hey, Central New Yorkers, THOSE WERE JOBS! Stop being negative. Tell your representatives to do something. Don't just wait around for the next election. We need jobs now.

It's east of Broome county, which is where Binghamton is.

I live in Chenango County. I just got a call from my superintendent. School is closed for tomorrow.

First of all, this story is not about how teachers are overpaid. It's about how State Ed. changed the testing schedule 2 weeks before school starts.
Secondly, I've been teaching for 9 years and don't even make $40,000. I work in a public school in NYS, have a masters and am very good at what I do.
Finally, I think we need to look at the bigger picture about how this affects vacations. Trust me, if I could afford to go on vacation during Spring Break, I would. But, alas, I'm just an overpaid teacher. However, wealthier families can afford vacations. If they take their children out of school during testing, there's a good chance that the school will be missing some of their higher performing students during testing. Let's face it. Well educated, well employed parents raise children who value education and perform well in school. And, before you all jump down my throat, I'm not saying that ALL children who perform well in school are from wealthy families. And, I'm not saying that all students from wealthy families perform well in school. But, a disproportionate number of students that perform well in school are from wealthy families, families that value education, families that provide stable homes, nutritious food and opportunities that poorer families cannot.

Not gonna lie, I ate the donut burger. I've definitely had worse. But, traditionally, I have to get Gianelli sausage with peppers and onions. It's lovely.

I would agree with you if it were not for the fact that the money to pay her off will come from the taxpayers. I personally believe that criminal charges need to be filed against all of the board members once this whole mess is cleaned up; I just don't know if that's possible.

However, you are 100% correct that the BOE is completely at fault. They need to just stop now. They need to open all of their books up to whomever needs to see them to sort out this whole mess. Then, they need to sell their homes, give the money to the district and get the heck out of Dodge.

They're not resigning because that would be tantamount to admitting guilt. If they do resign, they're saying to the community, "Hey, guys, look at me! This was all my fault!"

Quit blaming the teachers. A vast majority of us try our hardest to do everything possible to help these kids succeed. A lot of times, it's the administration and guidance who just push the kids along. I had a student this past year who missed over 90 days of school. Guidance wanted to just push her along to the next grade. My teammates and I had to fight to keep her back. We'll see what actually happened in September. But, do not, under any circumstances, think that the teachers are to blame for her lack of attendance. We didn't even get a chance to do our jobs. Other people (parents) play a very important role here, too.

Here's a hint for school supplies: Most stores put their school supplies (notebooks, binders, pens, pencils) on sale the weekend after school starts. My students get a supply list over the summer, but I don't get upset about them not having their supplies until the Monday after school starts. Wait until the weekend after schools starts to buy some of their supplies. Don't send them to school on the first day with nothing. But, one binder, some paper and a pack of pens will be enough for the first few days.

PS-I'm a middle school teacher. High school teachers may expect students to have their supplies right away. But, you can still probably put off most of the big shopping for a few days.

I do not condone what the man did. However, I think that this speaks to the need for more and better mental health care in this country.

I used to coach cheerleading, and one night, after a game, a few mothers (of some of the basketball players) got into a fight with each other. Their daughters were best friends and on the same team. Then, a few more mothers hopped into the fray. Then, a couple of the kids joined in, too. It took all I had to keep my athletes out of it. And, the next day in school, the kids were actually proud of their mothers. I would have disowned my mother if she ever pulled a stunt like that.

Yup, the worst will get paid the same as the best. I'm a teacher. And, I'm a very good teacher. It really burns me that I see my co-workers who show movies all day, everyday getting the same raise (1%) as me. Administration knows who the good teachers are. The teachers know who the good teacher are. Students know who the good teachers are. But, the union doesn't care. I like that the union has gotten me such good health insurance, but other than that, I see them as an impediment to really good teaching. If you're in the private sector, you have to work your butt off everyday just to keep your job. That should be the same for teachers.

It sort of makes you feel a little bad for her husband.

Do you just go out looking for stupid comments to post on EVERY article? This is a benefit for an awesome guy who is living with a pretty rough disease. It's not just going to a bar. There will be bands, food, raffles, face-painting-the whole shebang. Get over yourself, stop at the ATM and come on down to The Lost on Sunday and drop a few bucks for a good cause.

Don't worry, now that school is out and thousands of teachers have lost their jobs, the unemployment rate will go right back up. I have a good friend who got laid off. He was lucky enough to find a new job (that happens to be better than the one he had) before school even let out. So, he doesn't need to worry about paying his bills once September rolls along, but there are plenty of others who will.

Yup. That's about it. If you want to consider yourself a real educator, start using proper English, get a 4 year degree, get certified, get your masters and teach. Don't become a TA just so you can get the great health insurance for your family.

What you say is not entirely true. My union was asked to take a pay freeze this year. The general consensus was that we would gladly take the freeze if-and only if-certain layoffs would not happen. We also wanted to be sure that no more "favors" would be done for friends of the superintendent who needed a job. We couldn't get that guarantee. I have no problem taken a pay freeze as long as my co-workers and I get to keep our jobs. What I won't do is take a pay freeze, see my friend get laid off and then see some TA get hired in the fall to do nothing but use up oxygen.

Frank's daughter, Carol, is a dear friend of mine. I remember when we heard about him going missing. Shine was a real sweet guy. I know Carol, Linda and the rest of the family were torn apart. Please, don't accuse him of being "loaded". How many of you would be able to take the keys from your parents? When this all happened to a dear friend, I told my parents was that I was having tracking chips installed in them. That would be much easier than taking the keys.

I worked in the Johnston County School District many years ago. Actually, I taught at a school in Clayton. It's a very conservative county. Heck, it's semi-dry. I'm glad this girl pursued this. Good for her!
