I'm the health & fitness editor for The (Syracuse) Post-Standard. I'm a black belt in karate who enjoys yoga and running, and I'm a life member of Weight Watchers. My husband and I have three kids, who stay active with baseball, soccer and basketball. Heart bypass patients fare better when they are placed on the heart-lung machine during surgery, than when the operation is done "off pump," according to a recent study in the New England Journal of Medicine. Dr. Joel Rosenberg of St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center says surgeons already realized this but that "off pump"...

Runners tied bells to their running shoes Sunday, Nov. 22 for the annual 5K Jingle Bell Run at Long Branch Park in Liverpool. Other festive touches: Santa hats, reindeer antlers, red and green tights and light-up necklaces. The 17th annual Halloween 5K Run attracted 495 runners to Beaver Lake Nature Center on Sunday. Some competed in costume, including Ray Holt of Baldwinsville who ran as Elvis.
