Thanks for taking the time to point out this typo. We've fixed it.
Thanks for taking the time to point out the typo. We've corrected it.
We're told the Friday session has sold out, and there are just a few slots left for May 18.
You're correct, thb407. It's been corrected. Good catch.
That's a great question, master, and it's one we considered when we started the chicken wing showdown last fall. We felt picking the finalists through poll voting gave us a great starting point. By testing every finalist, we are able to compare them, something you wouldn't necessarily get through a poll. I'll be honest, I hadn't tried all the finalists before judging began, and I'm sure most of our readers hadn't visited all eight places. That said, perhaps we could add a "People's Choice Award" that's based on voting. I like that idea.
Oooh, I like that idea. I'll suggest that to Katie and His Honor.
Thanks, celtic1948, I like your approach. It was fun trying new pizzas at shops we had never visited before. We can't say enough about the final eight: every one of these places is excellent. I've revisited many of them since we judged, and the pizzas were just as good as they were when we were there on official pizza-judging business. That's the sign of a good pizza shop.
I, too, am looking forward to burgers.
That's not fair, welldoitlive1! I think as a pizza judge I need to try it out.
When I lived on that side of town I got pizza frequently from Johnny's. I was surprised that it didn't make the final eight. That doesn't keep me from going there every so often. Seriously, CNY is loaded with good pizza places.
yourmomma, I respectfully disagree. None of the places in our "Elite Eight" were bad; they were all very good. And they were all different. The Twin Trees cut never bothered me, and I like the crust, especially with the amount of ingredients on top of it.
Thanks for stopping out, Chuck, and thanks for appearing in our video. It was nice to finally meet you.
Sorry, but we could only visit one a week. Some judges (me) could eat pizza every day of the week; others might find that difficult.
It's on the west side, on the other side of Tipp Hill. If you're coming from downtown, take Genesee Street west. You'll cross Milton Avenue and a few other streets. There's a stop light at the corner of Avery Avenue and Genesee. Turn right. Twin Trees is on the right a few blocks down. Good stuff.
Thanks, Chuck. We've had a couple random customers almost every week. Actually, about a half dozen people showed up at TT3 for the judging, and Lou brought out a few pizzas for those "random customers" to try.
Oh, that's just precious!
Honestly, I didn't know Pavone's even had a Bridge Street location. I figured we'd be downtown or in Manlius. Still, we're looking forward to it.
I believe they're all members from the same family, but they're run very differently. I've been to three of them, and I do see the differences. That said, some similarities exist, like the way they cut the pizza.
Sorry you're no longer excited, SomeSay. Twin Trees are owned by different people, and the food and menus are different at each one. And the reason we're going to Bridge Street is that we left it up to the owner to pick the spot. They're all owned by the same people. Hope that explains it.
The original TT on Avery is a finalist. We'll be going there in 2 weeks.
No relation to Roger, slim. As for the trolls, I don't mind. I'm just being honest.
Honestly, we haven't had a bad pizza yet. These are supposedly the best eight in the area, based on the poll results. I wouldn't expect them to be bad. I would have no problem saying a pizza wasn't great, but so far we haven't seen that. Feel free to join us at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
You're correct, hfstern. When I wrote that I was referring to the food. The building has changed; we were just focusing on the pizza. Ed the Ref's wife actually got her wedding gown there, if I remember correctly.
Bob published the details the police were able to provide at that moment. As we get more information, we'll be sure to update the story.
There's a link to the final 8 above. Here it is again: http://blog.syracuse.com/cny/2012/02/best_of_cny_pizza_playoffs_meet_the_eight_finalists.html
The link is working. We were just waiting for some results to arrive. Thanks.
Thanks for pointing out the typo, schanke. We've fixed it.
We tested them today. Look for their writeup on Friday.
Dear PLID, I rarely put salt on anything. I just felt it needed a touch more, or perhaps some extra garlic. BTW, my blood pressure remains steady at 120 over 80.
Oops, good catch. That would be a problem. Thanks for catching that.
