Ok Matty - answer this - what percent do you pay for your health benefits? I work for taxpayers and I pay 40%.
Wonder what the savings would be if all employees pay 20% of their health benefits, and next year increase it to 30% - just crunch those numbers!
Thanks to all Flashmob participants - I wish I had been there to see it live - love watching the video - warms my heart. I am so surprised at all the negative comments - I know I shouldn't be....but especially at this time of year - something great - something positive - didn't hurt anyone and put alot of smiles on alot of faces. Great job!
Well said billydougan!!!!
The money the town was withholding is OUR money - our tax dollars that we pay - even when our homes burn to the ground - I'm glad they stepped in and wish they had before now - I know they tried to but it took the recent fire to really force the issue. The fire dept budgets are nearly half a million dollars and they don't have a comment? Volunteers are responsible for the budget and the hundreds of dollars of equipment, and buildings - and drive around in top of the line vehicles - and they don't want to be accountable? And shame on the county - too many times the towns get blamed for their idiocy - look at your tax bills people and see how much goes to the county - hmmmm Mahoney who?
As a government employee, I can assure you we don't make alot of money - despite what many of you think. Our school teachers and administrators, however, earn plenty for 180-185 days per year but the biggest crime of all is what they pay - or I should say DON'T pay for their health benefits. THAT is where the cuts will need to be in education - it doesn't necessarily mean the "classroom". And maybe the "extras" should be self pay/contribution: band, chorus, athletics, etc. What about these high school buses that pull in and out less than half-full? Just wanted to point out that everyone looks at their tax bill as full property taxes - meaning their town and village boards and forgets what the schools are doing - and no one seems to question that. Just a thought.
Those numbers have always been inflated - but never more so than last year and certainly this year. Last year I figured O'Hara was simply the scapegoat for Albany - but this year - especially after reading today's article about the treatment of the employees - "his" changes, "his" decisions...I had decided awhile ago not to attend this year - it's no deal breaker in the big picture - but I feel better about it - as a taxpayer.
Isn't this just great - we have Joanie's cousin running County Parks and now this guy - politics wins again - so the "qualified" - degree-holding, civil service test passing underlings have yet another "Commissioner" to hand hold since these guys know absolutely nothing. This county/city is really a mess. You can bet when any of the politicians run for re-election at least one of their photos will be taken in a park and they will exclaim how important parks and recreation is to the community but yet they will put any bozo in to run the ship. BS - plain old everyday B.S.
