"...this board is blind and deaf to constructive criticism from the community."

Yet all they (and us) get from you is constant nagging and harping. Where is the constructive criticism. It is people like you and those who defeated issue 2 that are holidng this community back from any significant progress. If you are so informed and wise on the matters, why don't you get off your keyboard and run for the school board? Or is your special talent just complaining and making the rest of us parents frustrated at your obstruction?

I'll be amazed if Kokosing finishes this project by the end of the month. It has been over 2 years. And that section of I-77 is an intermmitent construction zone at best. The extra lane was finished ages ago. The barrels go up and come down with no consistency.

So, if you disagree with the President on a policy matter you are a racist. When you disagreed with any other president on any matter and you were of different ethnicity that wasn't racisim? Of course it wasn't then and should be labeled racism now.

And for everyone calling the Repbulicans racist, please provide the facts. Exactly what has the party done to be labeled, in its entirty, racists? And please don't say because "this" person or "that" person did something. To label a whole party, or race, based on the actions of a few is stereotyping and not valid.

Garfield Hts is centrally located in the county. However, the article states this center is not open to the public. You take the waste to your local service department and they bring it here.

Wonder if Rocky River is demanding a share in tax revenue from Cleveland, like Frankie would if the situation was reversed.

I am a family of 5 earning less than 100K per year on two incomes. We have 3 children in the district and despite it all are still living check to check. We moved here 3 yrs ago because of the district. With the busing cancelled and the the daily round trip to school, along with the increased fees, our school expenses have already exceeded what the increase in property tax would have been with the new levy.

The school system is not on the hook "lifetime" pension. They pay a percentage of salary to the state retirement system which in turn manages the pensions. The cost to the district at retirement would be the payout of sick and vacation time. They already paid their pension obligation to the state and a per pay basis.

Everyone in the community benefits from a good school system. I support this levy and encourage others to do the same.

Keep voting no folks. Then the BBHCSD will soon become the equivalent of South Parma, or South Garifled. Take a look how those districts are doing and the home values in those neighborhoods. I moved here because of the schools and I'm sick of the small minded, vindictive individuals that are purposely intending to ruin it.

It may be less "shocking" but it doesn't hurt any less.

I believe there are only 5 or 6 level 1 trauma centers in the entire state of Ohio. A hospital cannot stay open if it cannot afford to pay it's health care providers and support staff (nurses, techs, etc). If an organization is losing money, they will typically cut positions. East Cleveland used to be a destination for Cleveland's wealthy, such as Rockefeller. Perhaps it can rebuild and at least attract a middle class again.

Medicare and Social Security need to be FIXED. Or they will die from deglect within the next 10-20 years. Any time someone looks at making changes to make it sustainable for the long term, there are cries of outrage that it will be taken away. Look, either we have adjusted programs that continue to be available or we have no programs because they went broke due to Congress' lake of foresight and proactive planning.

We had to endure 2 entire years of orange barrels on I-77. They were finally removed last fall/winter. Now, they're back!!?? I'd venture to say it took less time to build the highway in the first place. Just get it done already!

Ford didn't take a bail out and they have had a tremendous turn-around, on their own!

Councilman Pernell Jones Jr, last I checked the suburbs were still part of the county. It is the county hospital after all.

And there was Chambers bakery in Slavic Village (before it was called that). I used to stop there after church on Sunday with my dad (yes, they were open Sundays) and if I was lucky I got one of their big chocloate chip cookies. Local bakeries were and still are the best!

Condolences to the families. Too many kids dying lately.

I need to question how fast that truck was going and why it took him so long to determine that their car was not moving that he had "tried to swerve to miss it." Changing lanes within a more reasonable distance would have saved the day.

I suggest that Mr Ormsby stop browsing the books at the big box stores at Crocker Park long enough to look around him. In times like these, libraries are most needed. In addition to books, they provide services to the poeople, such as internet access to look for a job because they cannot afford service at home, workshops to improve their resumes and job search skills, or simple access to a wealth of knowledge and entertainment that could be out of their budget if they had to rely on Barnes & Noble or Borders.

Doubt that. SB 5 will require public employees to pay a percentage towards health insurance, comparable to the percentage the tax payers, who pay their salaries, pay. SB 5 will no longer protect bad employees (cops, fireman, or garbage collectors) by removing the cloak of seniority behind which they hide. Pay rates are still subject to collective bargaining. And police are still allowed to bargain other job related things, like bullet proof vests. This was spelled out in a PD article a week or two ago. It is in the city's (whether CLE or suburb) best interest to train their staff and I doubt that will change. I'm glad the cops were able to protect themselves and save the victim. Nothing in SB 5 will change this in the future. And saying so is just propaganda.

Prior to this school year, we had 5 calamity days. Ted Strickland and the previous assembly reduced it to 3 days for this school year. This assembly and govenor simply returned it to it's original level. 5 days makes way more since considering the weather we have here. And yes, the districts do need to call it at 5/5:30 in the morning based on the info at hand at that time before the high school teachers, staff, bus drivers and stundent start reporting for school start times between 7 and 7:30 am. This is rather sensible and it's rather annoying to see all these politicized comments.

The EPA causes more problems than it solves. Time to re-vamp, remove, or relace that agency on both the fed and state levels.

Reducing the calamity days to 3 was rather short-sighted by the previous admin, considering the winters that we have in northeron Ohio. 5 is realistic, as this last winter proved. First sensible thing to come out of Columbus in a while.

That's the Warner/Turney neighborhood. It was never part of Slavic Village. It seems like Slavic Village gets bigger and bigger every year. In the 70's when it was first "created" it was primarily Fleet Ave between 77 and Broadway. Now it seems to be the entire 44105 zip code.

It's private property for one. Second, they are works of art that should be protected. Third, I guess it's much better to leave them while council gets its act together (waiting decads for that one) so vandals can start breaking them. Really, it's better for them to be safe in storage than a broken out eyesore.

A few thoughts...
If any regionalism occurs, it should begin with the water department.

Bigger is not always better. Think about the snow plowing in your community. If you live in a suburb, the chances are good your main streets are clear and your side streets are drivable. Not so in CLE. On the many commutes this year (and others), coming in from my inner ring burb, the city line is clearly drawn in the snow.

I'm skeptical, probably more fearful, about regionalism. If this goes forward, it should be down in manageable initiatives. If it is an all at once scenerio it is bound to fail.

Collective bargaining for wages will still be allowed. SB5 gives the state the power change things like benefit contributions without waiting for a contract to expire or go back to the table. This is something that most compaines do on an annual basis. Companies will still continue to reward their valued and talented employees accordingly to retain them. It's the slackards that should be worried. I've reached the saturation point on this topic. All I hear when my union friends start talking about this is blah blah blah. Even FDR didn't think that public employees should be unionized. The unions talk about this as them vs the state or the republicans. The truth is every dime they demand comes out of our pockets and we are the ones with less to spend on our own families and needs.

Why doesn't the PD include the full story for Politifact in their posts. Everytime, we need to click on another link to get the analysis. Is it really that hard to put the analysis here?

I hope there's a plan in place to clean all the glass, both on the original building and on the inside of the burka they are putting on it. Is 2.5 feet of clearance enough room?

I never understoon while verifying his citizenship is not in the tangible interest of all citizens. Afterall, it is probably the most important requirement of his job.
