Interesting article and significant warming in the arctic has indeed been predicted by models. Extremes in weather could indeed be the result of climate change. I'm not going to get involved in the possible anthropogenic impacts though I have hugged a few trees in my day.

Don't get discouraged by your race times. Think of the mental toughness and conditioning you have acquired. Keep working at it and your body will adapt and respond to the stress. Of course, plan a sensible running regimen. You are a part of the VVS team and can play an important role without scoring points. If you hadn't run X-C I'm willing to wager that you wouldn't have had a chance to learn about yourself or what it means to "dig deep" not to mention the conditioning aspect.

The colored lights and pillars appear to be "snow pillars" caused when water vapor condenses into plate shaped crystals. I doubt that
the phenomenon observed could be attributed to "northern lights" /Aurora Borealis. The sun has been very quiet during the past couple weeks. Neither the appearance of the Aurora Borealis nor the snow pillars are related to Global Warming or Cooling. However, an argument could be made linking increased sunsport activity to globally warmer temps.

Those colored pillars of light appear to be "snow pillars" or light reflected from plate shaped snow crystals that appeared upon condensation. The sun has been very quiet for a couple weeks and doubt that this phenomenon could be attributed to the Aurora Borealis.
These phenomena are unrelated to global warming or cooling thoughtan argument could be made that increased sunspot activity may be linked to warmer global weather.
